video sound out to car stereo

Hey, new here and new to ipad. So far pretty happy with it. One question.

Have a bunch of vehicles here that either have factory ipod ready stereo's or pioneer/kenwood aftermarket stereo's that are ipod ready. When i plug my ipad into the usb on the stereo i can play my music fine, but it dosnt allow me to play a video and have the sound go through the car speakers. Is there a way i can hack it to do this?
