What's new

Well, I've not posted here for a few pages - so yet another kachina, i.e. Mouse Warrior - we bought this little guy in Tucson, AZ probably in the 1980s - this was our first 'expensive' Hopi kachina AND the one that finally convinced Susan to explore this spiritual art form - she saw it first and fell in love w/ the face & portly belly - now there are a lot of mouse dolls offered but many look like cartoon characters & even Mickey Mouse - I feel this one matches the dignity of his story (see PDF attachment, if interested).

The artist is Watson Namoki (1963-present): son of a Navajo mother & Hopi father. He attended the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, and lives in the Hopi Third Mesa village of Kykotsmovi. Please click on the images to see the marvelous detail of this cottonwood carving. Dave :)

Dave, that's a spectacular doll. Few folks outside the southwest understand or appreciate native art, but I still remember seeing my first Nampeyo pot and my first Two Gray Hills rug.

This post handcrafted from 100 percent post-consumer recycled electrons.

Hi Carol & Lanny - thanks for the comments - those photos don't do that carving justice, especially the details around the necklace. But, that probably remains one of Susan's favorites - I think that she was just attracted to a little 'Mouse Warrior' (may have reminded her of me? ;) :D) - Dave

There were some changes since my last walk along Darscho:

There's some ice along the waterfront.

This is what's still the same:

It seems as if the water is burning.

Great photos J. A. Darscho is sure a nice area to go for a walk in. I especially love that "burning water" one!:)

It is. There's always something I can find that has changed since the last walk. It never gets boring to me.
I like the "burning water" picture as well, although my first thoughts were (after editing it): this place doesn't really look pleasant.

I took this picture yesterday before noon. It shows the other side of Lake Neusiedl, with fields already covered with snow. image-517106641.webp Still no snow here.
