Well, I've not posted here for a few pages - so yet another kachina, i.e. Mouse Warrior - we bought this little guy in Tucson, AZ probably in the 1980s - this was our first 'expensive' Hopi kachina AND the one that finally convinced Susan to explore this spiritual art form - she saw it first and fell in love w/ the face & portly belly - now there are a lot of mouse dolls offered but many look like cartoon characters & even Mickey Mouse - I feel this one matches the dignity of his story (see PDF attachment, if interested).
The artist is Watson Namoki (1963-present): son of a Navajo mother & Hopi father. He attended the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, and lives in the Hopi Third Mesa village of Kykotsmovi. Please click on the images to see the marvelous detail of this cottonwood carving. Dave
