Got my iPad yesterday. On trying to log into a particular website, where I have to key in my username the keyboard didn't pop up to allow me to type it in. Any ideas?

Thank you

I've moved this to the Help section, where I think it will receive better attention.

Tap in any of the text entry fields. If they are editable then the keyboard will pop up.

There are two reasons (I can think of) that might prevent this. One, the website is using Java, Flash, or some other unsupported plugin for the login screen. I know one or two that actually have their login's as pop-up windows. Those might work if you turn off the pop-up blocking in Settings > Safari. Or they might not.

The other is if you have a bluetooth keyboard paired and turned on. The iPad will detect this and the keyboard will not come up. You can force the keyboard up with the eject key (if you have one), tapping the small keyboard icon at the bottom right, or turning off the bluetooth keyboard (or shutting of bluetooth on the iPad).

Thanks for this but I turned pop up blocking off and it still doesn't work. It is happening on a lot of websites that are fine on my iPhone. I don't have a Bluetooth keyboard, only a USB wireless one.

I'm not sure where you mean where I can force the keyboard up - where is the eject button or the keyboard icon?

I'm desperate!

Thank you

Forcing the keyboard up only applies if you are using a bluetooth keyboard, since you are not you won't see the options I mentioned.

Since it works on your iPhone, here are some things to try.

Go to Settings > Safari and clear your cache and cookies.

From the home screen double tap the home key to bring up the multitask bar. Tap and hold on any icon in the bar until they wiggle, then tap the minus sign on the Safari icon. This will remove the app from RAM and insure a clean start the next time you open it.

A restart might help, and if that does not work a reset.

Let us know if none of these work for you.

Restart: Hold down the power button until the power off slider appears. Slide it off. When the iPad finishes shutting down, hold down the power button again until the Apple logo appears.

Reset: Hold down the power and home buttons until the Apple logo appears. The iPad will reboot. This usually takes a bit longer than a restart.

Are you jailbroken? I had this issue occasionally after jail breaking (I've since undone this)... If so, ther are a few "keyboard fix" tweaks that can be installed to mostly prevent this.
