How to connect to the Internet via iPhone 3GS

Although I have an iPad 3G, I may not connect directly to the Internet because I still didn't get a MicroSIM.
What do I have to do to connect via my iPhone 3GS FW 3.1.3?

The only way to do this would be to jailbreak your iPhone which would allow you to make it a wifi hotspot.

Yesterday I got a MicroSIM adaptor and I'll adapt my SIM card to become a MicroSIM.

Alas I didn't succeed in doing so. I tried it in the iPhone, with the adaptor, but it is not recognized.

The solution would be MyWi. If I decide to jailbreak, would it be better to do it on my actual FW 3.1.3 or should I first upgrade, and, if the answer would be affirmative, to which version?

Is jailbreakme.com a good issue to jailbreak?
