You don't need a computer to update to iOS6.0........
Go to your iPad settings\General\Software Upadate

You can authorize the new computer to accept your iPad. Go to iTunes and set up a new library the prompts will let you authorize. Apple lets you authorize 5 times. With regard to the upgrade, I am assuming you want to upgrade to iOS 6.0. That needs to been done wirelessly. You need to plug in your iPad and connect to a wireless network. Go to settings and general and look for the upgrade software link. Click and follow the prompts. Depending on you connection speed, you should be done from start to finish in about 20-30 minutes.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

Referring to your pm to me and the new info given there.

Yes you will need to authorize this new laptop....have a look at this link, in particular Twerppoet's post.
http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-help/28475-syncing-ipad-new-itunes-library-impossible.html

As you are on an earlier OS, you will need to do the update connected to your laptop. OTA (over the air) updates can only be done once you are on OS5. Doing this will take you to IOS6.

You will need the latest version of iTunes on your laptop and its also a good idea to disable your virus protection/Firewall for the duration of the update. You will be jumping across many updates and the jump to IOS 5 is a very large one, so this will take quite some time and is dependent on what you already have on your iPad.

Good luck and let us know how you go.

I will include a video link to help you and also a troubleshooting link.

I've looked everywhere in general settings, and cannot find an "upgrade software link". I'm only on version 4.3.5 (8L 1) . Perhaps it because I've not done a recent update there's no such settings ? Is that possible or mi missing something.

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it,

Ness

As mentioned in leelai's post, you won't be able to update your iOS OTA. You'll have to do it while connected to iTunes on a computer. Selecting and initiating the update is all done on the computer, not in settings on your iPad.

You have two methods for downloading and installing iOS 6. You can simply update your iOS device over the air via the device's Settings, or you can connect it to your computer and use iTunes.

The OP cannot update over the air, because the iPad is currently on iOS 4.3.5. Updates OTA were not available until iOS 5.

Oh, and I cannot authorize this laptop because it says I've already authorized 5 (max number allowed)

You could de-authorize one of your 5 computers to make room for the new one.

Once you're set up, you can enable iTunes Wi-Fi Sync, which syncs apps, music, photos, and other files between an iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch (via iTunes) when they're connected to the same wireless signal. In fact, the sync happens automatically when you plug an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch's plug into a socket (you can also sync manually without a plug by pressing Sync Now in Settings > General > iTunes Wi-Fi Sync).
