Hints on Triple Entendre

Need a nudge on O-50. I know the word, no clue on the dice.
Also help on the Movie depicted in level M-27. Once I figure out the movie, I can usually figure out what they want. Having a hard time on this one for some reason.

M27: The location marker is for a very specific city in that state which is part of the movie title.

That should give a slight nudge. A stronger nudge awaits if needed. :-)

Stuck on the following

O17
M17
S43

Been stuck on these for a few days. Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

John

Somewhere along the way, was it decided to just send PMs?

The thread started out with hints given right here in the thread. Now everyone sends PM after PM? I'd think that posing the hints publicly would be more helpful. Maybe one person's hint is more helpful than another's or vice versa. One could then read the thread through and find multiple hints for a question?

Seeing "sent PM" again and again is just more work for the hint searcher as well as the hint giver, since the hint giver would need to continually send PM again and again. Just my opinion.

I think that the reason that we started sending PMs is because once you put the clue out there then it is there for everyone to see. And so you may inadvertently "read a hint" that you didn't want to read, and are therefore deprived of the satisfaction of solving the puzzle completely on your own.

Members - what do you think?

PM or not?

I think if you're looking for hints, then the more open the better. It's how I found this thread. I saw people asking for help, saw the hints given and decided that this was a good place to come for help. I probably did read a few hints at first glance that were for later levels, but they were promptly forgotten because of the levels I was working on in between. If i had seen that people were only doing PM's I probably would have skipped it over, trying to find another place.

I think as long as we label a hint with the corresponding level it should be enough for someone to skip that post. For example:

O:43 Hinty hint hint

M:17 Hintier hint hint

People can skip that actual post if its not what they were looking for. That's what I do now. I'm looking for a hint for a certain question and I just skip ones that say a level other than what I'm working on.

If we are choosing to just do PM's, why not just make a sticky that people can list their usernames on and say simple "PM me for hints on O, or M, or O, S and M, etc?". As it is now, up that's what this is now. Someone says I need help with "whatever level" because it's driving me crazy. Followed by "Sent PM". It's just not very helpful to anyone except the original poster. It's a very closed-feeling forum that way. I'd rather see a thread of everyone's collective knowledge for perusing.

Understood. I am open to whatever makes the most sense.

And yes, posting hints publicly would escalate the need for everyone to label their post, which most members are doing now.

I don't mind either way but for two things...
The devs came on the forum early on and thanked us for not posting the hints on here.
One persons interpretation of a hint can be a dead giveaway. Not necessarily what is wanted and there'd be no way to know how much was given until it's too late.

Personally I've enjoyed the social aspect as much as I have enjoyed the games themselves. I don't think that aspect would have taken place if we could just come along, get the answer and disappear again without even registering.

Ah, i must have missed the devs' post then. Tried looking for it, but couldn't find it,

I mean, if we dont post hints, I really think the thread isn't much more than a glorified email list then. I don't see any need to keep interacting in public on the thread if all I have to do is PM someone and get their hint privately. I'll argue that the public posting of the hints is what got us actually interacting in the first place. Looking back at this thread from post 1, I see a lot more member interaction there. Now, it really is coming down to the case example I posted above. And if we do have interactions, it's all in PMs which is a type of interaction for sure, but not very public and not really welcoming, IMO.

Case in point: if all we do is post "need help with M31", then received a "PM sent" and then we post a "thx!", that's the end of the interaction. Maybe we might post a "whew, hard one, or tough one, or what a great game!" I suppose... Imagine a newbie seeing over andover again JUST a post for help, a post for a PM sent, and a Thx. Feels kind of closed off to me. Doesn't feel very friendly to me. In the PMs sure, it may be friendly, but on the surface, it doesn't seem that way.

I mean, if I know that all you all want to do is PM from here on out, I see no reason for me to visit the thread (forum). I'll just login and send a PM to theolsen or whoever, get the aching and leave. No other interaction. I mean, there's a reason my first post to this forum was "Hey I finished movies!". I wasn't looking for hints, just saying hey, I can help if you need some. If I had seen that it was just a PM thing, I probably wouldn't have posted or joined. At the time, it seemed like a bunch of similarly minded puzzlers hanging out and sharing their experiences.

Can I get some hints for O46 please? Driving me insane. Don't know where to start.

There is a hex within the hex. Use the dashes up to so you know how many characters.

Thanks for the clues posted in here. They've helped a lot. I'm stuck on O27 and M35. For O27 I know what the flags mean but cant figure out the rest. For M35 I know the movie and thought I knew his occupation but I must be missing something else.
