Help!! Tether with laptop??

So I am going on vacation and need to get my work laptop internet and there are no wireless connections there. Verizon said I can use the ipad to tether with my laptop and as long as I have a 3g one (which i bought yesterday) it would work. Where in the settings do I have to go to turn on the tethering? I have been looking forever and searching online and I cant seem to find what I need.

Must probably under general>network there has to be a tether option

Your Verizon rep was wrong. The tethering (hotspot) plans are only available for the iPhone.
