Following on from reports earlier in the week that Apple is planning a very special event to celebrate the 10-year-anniversary of its retail stores, with Sunday May 22 being singled out as the date when the mysterious event would actually occur, 9to5 Mac reveals today that it believes Apple is indeed planning a massive worldwide retail event for this coming weekend, codenamed “Apple 2.0,†which will encompass not just Apple’s retail stores, but also the online stores across the world. According to 9to5 Mac’s sources, Apple Store 2.0 is nothing short of a major facelift and revamp for the Apple retail experience, which has been overseen by Apple CEO Steve Jobs himself and Apple design chief Jony Ive.
9to5 Mac reports that Personal Setup is set to be an integral part of Apple Store 2.0, complete with special in-store areas called “Startup Sessions,†which will be more interactive than ever before.
Other changes will be more cosmetic in nature, with paper signs being replaced by interactive iPad signs. The stores will also have “huge†new displays and new state-of-the-art sound systems. Finally, 9to5 Mac says that Apple is also planning to introduce a new Apple Store iOS app that will interact with the physical retail stores, meaning that when you walk into an Apple retail store with your iOS device, the app will know which store you’re in, and will even ask you if you’d like to speak to a specialist.
