Facetime

Does anyone know why facetime does not conect. I am on holiday in spain and trying to conect to family back in holland.
Facetime rings and when accept is selected it says connecting, but the fails.
Can any one help

Does the person you are calling have an iPad 2 or iPhone 4 and is FaceTime activated on those devices? I would love to visit Spain some day.
