Emails with No Sender, No Subject and No Content?

From time to time these appear in my inbox (dated 1/1/70). They can't be deleted because no radio button appears next to them in Edit mode. They seem to eventually disappear of thier own accord.

Does anyone know what causes them, how to prevent them and how to delete them?
