Dvd to my IPad

Can anybody give me a complete idiots guide to getting DVDs onto my iPad
I have an iMac and ipad2, but Im a complete novice. I have tried handbrake but I keep getting the message no source found. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Its sad but true that its probably quicker to download all the films off the internet, already in the correct format, than convert them yourself.
