Dragonvale Tips & Tricks! (NO Friend Requests!)

Woke up at 4:27 this morning. Restocked the breeding caves with the two combos for Panlong, and got my first 36 hour breeding time. 3 days from now I will have all the dragons (save bone and reindeer ... and what ever new one gets released in that time, lol).

Stick with it people ... it just takes time.

Except to just keep trying is there ANY tricks to getting a Panlong??? The constant RE-breeding of the same 4 dragon-types, is getting VERY OLD. What am I missing??? Please help anyone.
I'm sorry but unfortunately it is just a patience issue :( Some have had between 50 and 70 tries to get one. It's like my Rainbow. I only got him the other day and I've been trying from the day the game was released. I got mine with Blazing and Mud at level 15 if that helps. Keep trying and good luck :)

Am I too impatient???

I am getting seriously irritated by not getting the results that various combos that you all have used, are supposed to create. That is, for instance, when I breed air/mud, I'm getting ...oh, I can't even remember, I just sell them off as soon as they're hatchable because I already have more than enough - like fireflys, storms, scorches, blazings... I really want another sandstorm, and a couple bluefires and frostfires. Keep getting ices, icebergs... another scorch or firefly just now from a scorch/cold cross (reputed to result in bluefire or frostfire).

Sigh. Am I just too impatient???

Edit: maybe wrong levels? usually when I see combos mentioned, the level the dragons are at often isn't included.... Thoughts?
Blue Fire and Frost Fire are hard little devils. The combos are right but it seems more a case of luck than anything. I can't get a second Frost Fire to save my life. Just hoping that if I keep trying he will eventually come. Don't remember the levels for my first but it was Cold and Firefly and took many tries. Hope you have success soon :)

Hello all. Sorry I have not been on. I have been at the hospital with my grandfather in ICU for the past several days. He is still in ICU in serious condition. ( stepped down from critical). Today is his birthday and he is 82 years old!

I have been trying to keep up with who has sent me gems and send them back. I have gotten the "and others" message once and will try to get that one figured out. Please be patient with me sending them all back.

On a brighter note I did manage to get one Love dragon. Right before I left for the hospital. I have not read the thread at all and do not know all the ways to get the new dragon. I got mine with lightening and flower! I did also get my sun dragon!! So now I need frostfire and sandstorm!

Happy breeding and shrining!

You poor thing. Not a great time for you at all. Hope you get some rest and that your grandfather will be okay. Take care of yourself babe. Tanya x

Hi friends, I need your help! Over the past few days i noticed that I've been losing interest in DV!!! I have a lot of cr*p going on at home (MIL milking her knee injury) and I also put yet another moon in my nursery. I just can't get a sun and it's getting to me.

Has anybody else here gone through a period like this and come around again?
I too had felt a little this way recently. I think I had been so excited about finally getting my Rainbow that once he was hatched I suffered some post hatching depression. Since then haven't been able to breed anything I want and have been blowing gems on failed breeding attempts. All got a little disheartening so I decided not to try to breed for anything and am just using airs to make money and food. Once I'm happy there I'll try breeding again and hopefully I can get my second Sandstorm, Frost Fire, Rainbow or her who cannot be named :) Hang in there babe. Tanya x

Making money is a really good strategy. Those beasties can EAT, and seeing those numbers for coins go up is really beautiful :)

I'm really glad to see that I'm not alone in this lull, that's why this forum it so awesome :) I hope your luck turns around soon too, Tanya.

How's this, I'm on holidays this week (my birthday on Friday and you can't work on your birthday!) and instead of sleeping in, reading a book, watching TV, etc - I'm up at 7am checking on my dragons and then posting on the forum at 7:30am. Sitting out the back having coffee and relaxing though. A day in the life of a DV addict :p

A Tip From Poppy

I sense a growing sense of malaise and loss of enthusiasm here and I think I know the cause. There are really only three elements to DV: (1) Breeding (2) Design (3) Striving for Shrines. Let's analyze those for a minute and how they each rate on the pleasure scale.

Breeding
Breeding can be a huge plus or a huge minus. It can be exhilarating when you get what you want and downright depressing when you have a long string of failures, which many on the list are experiencing right now. And for those who have a pair of every dragon, the thrill is gone completely, so breeding is lost.

Design & Building
This is only a plus, the most enjoyable part of game in my opinion. There's no downside to it. But as I go around clicking on party hats I see a lot of designs that never change.

Striving for Gold Shrines
This in my opinion, and despite my doing it, is simply a minus. There's a small sense of satisfaction when you reach a gold level, but the journey is a slow agonizing monkey motion grind - more like work than play.

So let's add it up. Let's say you're in a long losing streak breeding. Thats -1. And you've pretty much left your park design alone for a while. That's 0. And that you've been suckered into the gold shrine grind. That's -1. Your total score is -2. No wonder you're not having any fun!

My advice? Go work on the design of your park. Play. Forget the shrine grind. You'll enjoy yourself while waiting for the inevitable breeding break-through.

I think BFS made a serious mistake when they introduced the grind. They should give the opportunity for more islands (more design fun!), the opportunity to have more habitats and not be as confined. The shrine grind is not enjoyable and hurts the game. They need to expand in ways that are fun, not work.

FWIW,
Poppy

when you play DV you have to check your sense of logic at the door ;)

I don't know if it's a glitch, but it's always been that way.

EDIT: I would think it's to do with the breeding time. Only 2 hours, so 500K.

You're right. I was just expecting more coins and a little disappointed. Oh well. But I did email support at BF it really "should be" 1 mil. I will let everyone know if they respond back. Lol.

You're spot on. My oversight. That's another dimension the game developers could expand on - the social aspect. I can think of ten things they could in that area off the top of my head. There's a fabulous community here and they appear to totally ignore it.

Thx Poppy for this analysis. I agree (having not even really started on shrines yet) :-) The decorating bit reminds me, rather, of when I got a Barbie (an eon or so ago, folks!) and had the most fun setting up and re-arranging her "house" (a tri-level end table in the living room, haha!) It was so much more fun than actually playing directly with her :-)

At the moment I'm about half way thru lvl 19, and waiting to be able to buy island 4 - lvl20? I hope? - before doing more re-arranging.

That's exciting as week ago if I recalled you didn't have any of the rareS. Congratulation! How is your wife and daughters game coming along?

Yes! Messaging friends, trading dragons, trading eggs, etcetc are some of mine. They seem very focused on encouraging/forcing/cajoling the users to make in-app real-world purchases instead...
