Dragonvale Tips & Tricks! (NO Friend Requests!)

A Tip From Poppy

I sense a growing sense of malaise and loss of enthusiasm here and I think I know the cause. There are really only three elements to DV: (1) Breeding (2) Design (3) Striving for Shrines. Let's analyze those for a minute and how they each rate on the pleasure scale.

Breeding
Breeding can be a huge plus or a huge minus. It can be exhilarating when you get what you want and downright depressing when you have a long string of failures, which many on the list are experiencing right now. And for those who have a pair of every dragon, the thrill is gone completely, so breeding is lost.

Design & Building
This is only a plus, the most enjoyable part of game in my opinion. There's no downside to it. But as I go around clicking on party hats I see a lot of designs that never change.

Striving for Gold Shrines
This in my opinion, and despite my doing it, is simply a minus. There's a small sense of satisfaction when you reach a gold level, but the journey is a slow agonizing monkey motion grind - more like work than play.

So let's add it up. Let's say you're in a long losing streak breeding. Thats -1. And you've pretty much left your park design alone for a while. That's 0. And that you've been suckered into the gold shrine grind. That's -1. Your total score is -2. No wonder you're not having any fun!

My advice? Go work on the design of your park. Play. Forget the shrine grind. You'll enjoy yourself while waiting for the inevitable breeding break-through.

I think BFS made a serious mistake when they introduced the grind. They should give the opportunity for more islands (more design fun!), the opportunity to have more habitats and not be as confined. The shrine grind is not enjoyable and hurts the game. They need to expand in ways that are fun, not work.

FWIW,
Poppy

You are absolutely right in your analysis. And the add about the makers ignoring the players community like this one (there are others great to document habitats, eggs etc etc) but this one her is the absolutely best,
Emm question: what does FWIW means (my mother language is french and i do not recall having ever seen that abbreviation)

You missed the most important value of this game. . . .it this thread of support and warmth that keeps me coming back. If it wasn't for everyone here I would of moved on. Thank you!:o

Totally agree. The game is gooood but so is the forum. Like an extended international family.

You're right. I was just expecting more coins and a little disappointed. Oh well. But I did email support at BF it really "should be" 1 mil. I will let everyone know if they respond back. Lol.

Response:

The re-sell value is not as much as the purchase value so yes, that is the correct amount.

Fyi

Sometimes I am a little anal:

I understand your frustration but currently that's as designed!

I understand resale value is normally half off, however, than why is willow, snow, sonic and fog are 1000 gems and sell for 1 mil. *Its inconsistent with the other dragons requesting for 1000 gems.

I understand this is the fastest way to generate coins, but air sells for $500,000 and sandstorm should sell for 1 mil. It's listed as 1000 gems in the market, similar to fog, snow, willow as they are all listed the same 1000 gems. Is this a glitched?

I have asked BFS about this many times and the only response I get is "the wizards are the ones who determine value for dragons. We don't mess with their magic" or something very similar. I'm not sure why I can't get a straight answer.

FWIW = for what it's worth :-) If you google "acronyms" there are many sites that list commonly used ones :-) Have fun!

Totally agree Poppy. I decided to try and save up for my fifth island, whilst trying to get my second Panlong and My first Sandstorm. Decided that the shrines will sort out later.

No Bone Dragon, didn't get started till mid-November. *puts on her best I can endure face and pounds fist on desk "I want a PANLONG! and NOW durnit!"*

Took me over twenty tries for each panlong. I've got 48 dragons in my HC cave from all my panlong attempts. Hang in there!

Thx Poppy for this analysis. I agree (having not even really started on shrines yet) :-) The decorating bit reminds me, rather, of when I got a Barbie (an eon or so ago, folks!) and had the most fun setting up and re-arranging her "house" (a tri-level end table in the living room, haha!) It was so much more fun than actually playing directly with her :-)

At the moment I'm about half way thru lvl 19, and waiting to be able to buy island 4 - lvl20? I hope? - before doing more re-arranging.

That's why a storage shed for the decorations would be so cool. You could rearrange the islands and it wouldn't eat into your fins whilst you do the shrines, and morale is low.

You're spot on. My oversight. That's another dimension the game developers could expand on - the social aspect. I can think of ten things they could in that area off the top of my head. There's a fabulous community here and they appear to totally ignore it.

Poppy : maybe you should email your contact at BFS and give them your ideas - they may not have thought of them :)

So I have one Panlong finally level 20. Without boosts they make 375 an hour at level 20. I used poppy's advice and put fire and water boosts on the island just to check it out. Here's the results. WOW. Definitely a coin factory.
