Ive refused to use the crystal in my efforts to get a rare as i dred the 24 hr breed for another crystal!! However i thought since i hadnt tried it id give it a go with bluefire and hey presto!! 48hr breed time! Pleeeeeeeeease be my moon!!!

Might be a sun. I did exactly the same as you, crossed everything...and got a sun. Fingers crossed for and maybe if it works for I will try again.

Great day yesterday!
In the morning my first sun dragon wasborn. Now I'm only missing moon, rainbow and bone, but no every last one achievement...

Then, while messing about in the evening, my scorch and reindeer dragon got a 48 hour timer
Great birthday!

Btw my sun dragon was conceived at 9am, this one at 9pm, hoping for a moon

Thanks for your congrats too. I love Spectrum and Patrick (hehe) - thanks for the great suggestions. I will keep them in mind for if I ever get another one because I'd already gone with Bright for this one! It's kind of a mix of "Rainbow Brite" and a guy's name I liked from a TV show (Everwood) so it's also sort of unisex.

Congratulations! I'm thinking it is a sun or rainbow because those are the two that most appear from this combo. I hope it's a moon though

Baah, my 5th rare turned out to be a Sun..
I am going to sell it as soon as the egg finishes incubating.. Not interested in wasting a third habitat for the Sun.. Already have a couple of Suns and Moons..
Rainbow hunt still on..

Awww, sorry to hear that. I'd still suggest Blazing x Crystal though, even with the risk of getting a Crystal/24 hour breed. I, luckily, didnt get a Crystal in all my attempts and I was pretty certain it was a Rainbow as soon as I got the 48 hour breed time (so I was less anxious, hehe).

Congrats.. How far did you make it in the shrines.. I have become Level 25 this morning.. Still have to finish off my Water and Air shrines..
And level up all my dragons.. which is going to be a huge task..

I only have my Earth (27), Water (29) and Air (23) to finish now. I grew lots of food (in fact I spent 20 mill *gulp* but at least the food will eventually come in handy) when I was most of the way through level 23 purely for the XP to get to level 24 (and get my Air shrine). I had lots of Air hybrid dragons taking up room around my park with more waiting in my nursery with no where to go and I was so close to having the Air shrine that I couldn't bring myself to sell any until they'd been counted, hehe.
I haven't actually bred even one dragon specifically for the shrines though, as I have only been feeding up the random dragons produced by my quest for the rares. Yes, it was not the most effective/efficient way of doing it (I certainly did sell some dragons before they were counted to shrines I hadn't got yet) but getting my rares was my priority so I wasn't too worried.
I may end up breeding a few specifically in the end but not yet.

I'm not actually sure I want to level my dragons up yet (accidently levelled a Firefly to 11 but that's the only one that's above a 10) - I know they'll earn more but it also costs A LOT to level up in the first place. I'm also not fussed on the way the orbs look or the idea that the dragons will get bigger (thus making everything more crowded). If we later find out we NEED to level them up to get to higher game levels or get certain new dragons/features then I will look at it then.
I think my strategy as is, will be to get my second Rainbow (and probably another Moon), finish the remaining shrines and then just save, save, save for now. That means I'll have the cash to level up my dragons later anyway - or to spend on whatever comes in the next update, hehe.

Haha, I avoided Bluefire x Crystal after my first Sun for that reason but caved and used Blazing x Crystal (and Seaweed x Firefly) in my quest for a Rainbow. Blazing x Crystal was successful for me and I was lucky enough not to get a Crystal in all my attempts.

Moons are definitely cuter than the Suns.
Moons are hands down my favourite dragon (which is why it was much harder to wait so long to get it, heh) but the Blazing is my favourite 'normal' dragon (except only as a juvenile/adult - not so fussed on the baby strangely enough). I find it very hard to sell the Blazings despite the fact I have 'too many' and even though they bring in a cool mill each

Thanks for tha will give them ago when my others finish breeding. Can anyone please tell me why I cannot bread a sandstorm dragon. I am level 23 and have both the breeding cave and epic breeding. All my dragons are level 10 and 11 and have all except Sun, Moon and Sandstorm dragons please please please can someone help x

Sandstorm is known to be very difficult, like Bluefire and the rares (anything that needs 'opposite elements'/hybrids). Lots of people try many, many times with 'proven' pairs to no avail until one day, suddenly, it works. No one is entirely sure why.
I'd suggest trying proven pairs like Mud x Air or Air x Mountain and just breeding again and again and again. Try things like swapping the order once and then go back to the original order or swapping the order for an ongoing time.
I was lucky that when I really started trying I got mine reasonably quickly (only after a full day or so) with Air x Mountain in my epic cave. I was also trying with Mud x Air in my normal cave but had no luck with them.

My signature shows my proven/lucky combinations for my rares, limited editions and hard-to-get dragons .

Hello all, just started playing 2 days ago. I see a lot of references to higher end dragons so I must ask. What is a decent strategy to start? Should I try to get one of every dragon or aim at a few and level them to 10 trying to get a rare? With my work schedule I usually check in every 12 hours most of the time so I am trying to figure out the best way to maximize my gold collections with the larger gold holding habitats. Also, is it best to level the dragons the same rate (get all to 7, then all to 8) or should I get them to 10 one at a time for breeding and coliseum purposes? Thank you.

Hi and welcome! Always glad to meet another dragon addict, haha.

I'd suggest following the game goals for maximum returns to start with (don't get too ahead of yourself because you'll only get coins and or/XP rewards if what you are doing is actually a goal) and that should set you well on your way to getting one of each dragon (which is a Game Center achievement in itself). An exception to that is forgetting about anything to do with bringing in more visitors because, it seems, there is no value to actually having more visitors.
Clearing your islands and building stuff will get you most of the XP to get through the levels to start with but my strategy has been to only decorate with stuff I like and want to keep (rather than building for the XP and then selling) and then growing food for any further XP because you will always use the food later so it is not wasted.

Not sure it matters whether you level them all together or separately but yes, levelling up only those you need for breeding/colosseum could work well (though I'm not sure the dragons need to be at level 10 to get rares - it just seems most peoples are because they are already at a certain level of the game when they start trying). I'd probably suggest trying for a Reindeer as soon as possible though, because it's a limited edition and will likely be unavailable with the next update.

It's great you are already thinking about which dragons/habitats are the bigger money earners for your situation. Cold and Earth habitats are definitely the better way to go for you it seems (highest 'normal habitats' max incomes) but Cold is probably the best because Earth dragons tend to be lower earning too (obviously there are exceptions, like the Quake dragon).

I just leveled up and now have the breeding island available. Is this island only for breeding or can other habitats be on it? Is there a solid advantage to using this island vs the cave for breeding? Also - as you get into hybrids is it advisable to get rid of some of the original (earth, fire, tree)? Tree fills up dragon coins so quickly it would seem the merit would be to hold onto them for breeding or just sell them. Last question - what do the plant boosts do for you? Just saw those become available...guess I should get them to be able to level up but what are they for? Hmmmm.

I know we've already discussed this a few times but it still makes me chuckle that some of us, me included, are already complaining about getting rares now *shakes fist at rares taking up breeding cave/nursery space*
I think most people complain about those darn Crystals after the first one though, blah! hehe

Thank you, thank you. I hadn't tried the sandstorm and storm combo. Tried and got a 48 hr. now crossing fingers for moon. I too am so tired of crystals. I have to sell one about every other day.

Hi everyone ... Happy new year to all of u... Just wanna say Thanx a lot for all those people who have share their breeding info here... I've actually been viewing this thread for almost a month n I got all the missing dragon done ... So just wanna share on my rainbow breeding... Sorry that I forgotten those username ... I tried bluefire with air plus snow n it works well for me... Bout the rainbow I actually used seaweed lvl 11 and firefly lvl 10 both on the normal n epic island n with not more than 15 tries i get 2 rainbow at the same time n the third one after the previous rainbow incubation is done... And I'm using the same pair to breed as well... Hopefully it helps
