So, I've just started playing DV (am getting bored of Hay Day now) and wondered if there was a newbie guide anywhere? I currently have 6 red gems and seem to need 25 to purchase the next dragon and progress with the game. How do you get lots of gems, other than with real money? Many thanks.

Welcome to DV. To get gems, you can be gifted gems by friends, at level ten you can build a coliseum and win gems, or as you pointed out they can be purchased. You should not need to use gems to buy dragons as the dragons can be bred. I'm new to DV also and this forum in an excellent source of information. I'm sure others will provide more information.

You don't need gems to progress, breed the dragons you've got together to make new hybrids and just keep breeding

It should help you understand the right combinations to try and breed the dragons you need without purchasing them with gems. There is of course nothing wrong with using gems to buy a dragon, but it would become very expensive, very quickly. You are best to try and breed what you need with the right combinations of basic dragons, and use your gems to speed things up when you really need to. Later in the game you will need to stockpile gems for some upgrades, so it's best to get some friends and get into the habit of gifting them early so you can build up a stock!

I use steel + scorch, it gave me 48 hrs breeding time. Happy with it !

Gems like are earned by
*gem dragons they produce gems instead of $
*friends sending gems to u
*wining 1st place in the race track gives u chance to win gems
* colosseum get u gems as well

Dragons
We have a dragonvale breeding guide here check it out bc every single dragon can be breed without having to waste dc nor gems

For now just grown them treats n feed them
Follow the goals list that kind off guides u in the right direction

Later on your goals would be:
*have every single dragon
*have all your a shrines GOLD
*start an egg collection
*make your island the best u can

Maybe try holding the home button and deleting everything there? Or like what kryp2n8 said, it may be your Internet. This has happend to me many times before.

Welcome to the best forum in the world. If you list your game centre id we will add you, and then we can send you gems. Many of us have the gem gifting tree and that means that we can send 6 gems everyday.

I know you will find awesome people within this thread and fantastic advice too. Happy breeding

I see that one of our mods has listed the breeding guide - stick with that as it will help you breed the dragons you need - not always first try, but you will get them eventually - and, if and when you are struggling to get what you need - just ask here. Again, a huge welcome.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I've just noted from the Breeding Guide that I have to be at level 7 before I can start breeding. So I'll make a start from there. I'll also add my Game Centre ID to the thread.
