Downloading photos

I am a the limit of the space available on my ipad. I have close to 3 GB of pictures I'd like to move off to a hard drive. I have an ipad to USB connector. Can you tell me how to do this? Thanks.

I'm presuming your harddrive is connected to a computer in someway, internally or externally
