Can't open iPad

Hi everybody! I joined this forum because I sowmtiems need help with my iPad. Like nose! I updated my iPad to the new OS9. Somehow upon trying to open after restarting it asked for a four character password. I never made a password for opening my iPad and could not enter anything. Somehow I must have made a password in error. I am not great with technology! Anyway I can't recall any four space password and I cannot now get into my iPad AT ALL. I tried a few possibilities but then I got locked out.
Help! Does nobody have advice for getting into my iPad?

You'll have to erase your iPad, then you'll be able to access it again. There are a few ways to do this. See Apple's instructions:
