Talking to a friend at work about ripping blu-rays to play on the new ipad 4 ...if I ripped the same movie from a blu-ray disk and a DVD best quality for both ie h.264..would I able to tell the difference on the ipad with a 9.5 screen..
Ripping both using dvdfab ..two passes on the DVD rip.
Best regards vince

Yes, I think so. DVD is pretty low res.

However, I don't think it is worth ripping at 1080p for an iPad...I think 720p is fine. 480P dvd rip will be kinda fuzzy, IME. More so if the image is in 2.40:1.

OTOH, if you want to view your rips on different kinds of screens, as large as 70-inches, for example, then you'd better rip at 1080p. Those files tend to be a good bit larger, though.

Yeap, 480p implies a heavy upscaling in order to fit in iPad's resolution. The ideal situation is to go for 1080p rips because they will be displayed at their native resolution, the problem is that a proper 1080p BRrip weights about 6-12 GB depending on the movie. 720p is the sweet spot I believe.
