Big Business - game discussion

Someone mentioned supply/demand. I don't think anyone here played Patrician (there are several games in the series), which is the Hanseatic League trading sim. In the course of the game you can eliminate a rival by overproducing something and thus driving prices down. After a while your rival can go out of business and you have a chance to buy his facilities cheap. You can also buy and hoard goods. That would eventually drive up demand for these goods. Prices skyrocket and voila, you become rich overnight.

J Paul Getty was the capitalist who did this with a tremendous amount of success in the gasoline industry. Brilliant, but he is the reason that we have a poor public transit system in Los Angeles. Time was when we had cable cars and public train system that was the envy of the world... But Getty bought it and tore it up. And here we are... dependent on his oil and with 2 museums with incredible (looted for low prices) art as his namesake.

I am at 175000 population. Making cottage cheese to get to 7 million

I'm at 140,000 and on my way to 7 mil also. Currently at 4.2 and started the day at 3.4.

Daughter was helping me out yesterday with the taxis and fat fingered the instant purchase of land... 60 Cash or so. bummer. She was mortified, but I took a deep breath and told her it was no big deal. In the end, it was only $4 us or so worth. But the worst part (well, adding insult to injury) was the fact that it is not instantly cleared. 24 hours to be reminded of the terrible design to not ask if we are sure of our purchase.

Phew. I managed to get the Easter challenge done just barely by earning the requisite credits to buy the last 3 eggs I needed. It feels really nice to just relax and work on my town. At 2.1 mil coin now going for 7 mil before I go on a spending spree.

To answer the question on what I produce, I mainly just produce whatever sounds good for that day. I try to do the daily personal challenges because they are fun. I make a lot of the same things other people do. I really wish I could sell off my trucks. I would consider getting out of furniture all together.

I feel bad for you. I have fat fingered a few things too. I had my son play the game today on a drive to play golf. I was terrified he would screw it up. I think he enjoyed terrorizing me. He can be very sarcastic. Are you going to try the zero population achievement?

I have fat fingered land purchase at least 3 times. Last one was for 45 credits. Now I try to have land going all the time. It is far to easy to fat finger it.

For me, the achievements are not as important as playing for the contests and improving my city. I decided that if I was going to play the game, that I wanted to have the max population possible for the max amount of industry possible.

Good job, McBane. I got the 25 cash for the Easter challenge, so the loss of cash from my girl was not as tragic. Plus, it is only $4. I have to keep things in perspective. I just pray that she does not crash the car when she gets her license in a year!

It's a really good idea to have a land purchase going at all times. It will really slow down my quest to 7 million, but feel it's worth it. Besides, I will need lots of land in the future anyway.

Similar to that I try and make sure the first page of production options for my factories is purchased through coin. I've fat fingered research too.

Ironically, my purchase of territory had just ended a little while before.

Last tip for the day. I get really annoyed putting out fires and sending medical people to my houses. Now that i have the related achievements, there's no point. So, once it starts burning a power plant or decoration. I try to never put it out.

Zero pop done. I've been in the mode of sending pop, I forgot what to do normally. I guess first thing is to put the roads back.
