It seems that on the WiFi launch morning that an Apple engineer was waiting in line outside an apple store and saw Steve Wozniak. He showed the 3G prototype to Woz for 2 minutes during which time the iPad phoned home and the engineer was fired for violating the Apple NDA.

The iPad engineer that got fired probably had other issues. And I would not get too bent about it. Most of the Apple product engineers do not last very long. Once they get going on a project, they work long hours with a lot of stress. Steve Jobs is a perfectionist and such atmosphere can be hard to deal with. There are a lot of young engineers and fresh blood works well for Apple creative.

Companies and governments spend money on espionage, they sign an agreement that they will not disclose secret info. End of story. All policies have discretion. You think Microsoft has never fired anyone for the same kind of disclosure?

It may not be national security, but it has the potential to cost Apple millions. In some cases, it can be a major embarrassment. The iPhone fiasco was an accident and possible criminal event. The 3G iPad event was a deliberate failure to abide by the rules.

Seeing how the iPad 3G was going to made available to the public on the 30th anyways what actual harm was done. Anyone can get their hands on it after Friday do reverse engineering on it.

The only reason I think it's bs that he got fired is because of who got to see it! It's not like he showed it to a friend or bill gates, it was Woz fir crap sake!! If not for him there probably wouldn't even be an iPad to show!

But SW was not the only person there. And a lot of media types were there by inference. And who do you suppose took the picture of the 3G with Woz?

Hey - a systems engineer or developer knows, that the work he is doing, typically is top secret and he has to be carefully with sharing his information - regardless how proud he might be.

Showing a product in public, which has not yet been public available is a clear breach of the confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement and will, even here in Germany, cause this person to be fired immediately.

in every serious company, that will be the same it will be fire IMMEDIATELY, the main problem (i believe) is not SW is the media around … he broke a security rule so …. took the door and bye bye …. even we are small company i will do exactly the same or i will send him in lower stage where have no secret products
