Will Airprint work on iPad 1?

I know it will on my iPad 2.

Going to buy another printer and was wondering if both iPads will be able to use the printer.

AirPrint works fine on both iPads - but you might need to upgrade the operating system, iOS, on your iPad1 - it needs to be at least 4.2 for AirPrint - in any case the current release is 4.3.3

One quick question: How do you upgrade the OS? I would think it would upgrade automatically but I guess not.

When the iPad is connected to iTunes, just select iPad from the left panel (located under devices) and then select Update. It is fairly straight forward
