A few quick questions prior to purchase and thanks in advance
(1) Can I save files to the ipad like mp3 or pdfs and be able to search for that file after downloading it? either natively or through a third party app?
(2) can you do two things at once for example listen to music and surf the web at the same time?
(3) will the hdmi tv out cable output every video file you try to play or is drm involved?
(4) Can you tether a droid to an ipad for net access?
(5) how bad will i miss flash what are some ways around not needing it or using it.
Thanks!
(1) Yes, but you may require more than one app to do this. With the exception of the native Media folders, each app has it's own sand boxed file system. This means that you will sometimes have to do some shuffling to get a file from one app to another. You can either view this as an inconvenience, or a security measure. Both are true in their own way. An app like GoodReader goes a long way to alleviate the inconvenience side of things.
(2) To some extent. Most of the time you are actually just switching between apps, with one of them frozen in the background until you start it again. There are some exceptions. Music, downloads, GPS, and four other services I can't remember at the moment will run in the background if the app supports that. Most newer apps with those services do, including the native iOS apps.
(3) The new HDMI cable mirrors the iPad display. If you can see it on the iPad, then you will see it on the big screen. For now, the HDMI adaptor is the only cable that we know for sure will work this way. Other solutions have only worked inside apps up till now.
(4) If you use a wifi hotspot, yes. Otherwise it requires rooting and jailbreaking on both devices. I haven't explored any of the various solutions. YMMV.
(5) This depends entirely on your browsing habits. If you go to a lot of Flash site now, you are going to miss it. If those site are only a secondary concern then the Flash capable browsers like Skyfire or Puffin may meet your needs. If your favorite sites already have an app or HTML5 alternative, then you are good to go, though you may miss the old site interface. If you have something that is definitely a deal breaker for you, be sure to ask about that service/site before buying.
