Using I pad for a classroom interactive device

Is it possible to set up an Ipad to operate only one app and lock out access to all other Ipad functions?

Not at the moment (unless you are jailbroken).

However, rumor on the street has it that iOS 6 will have some form of restriction capability like that. We can only wait and see (and hope)...
