Storage company LaCie has announced a new version of its Fuel external hardve, which now offers a total of 2TB of storage, doubling the capacity from one terabyte. While this external drive is designed to work with the iPad, it will also work with iPhones and Mac computers. Despite being able to wirelessly stream to any Apple device, it does not require an Internet connection. Also, it can work as a Wi-Fi hotspot, being able to connect up to five devices in the same time.

To be able to access your files saved on the external drive, you will need to download the Seagate Media app. Also, it’s really cool that Dropbox integration is also supported, so you can download your files from there, if you have an account. It comes with Airplay compatibility for mirroring content on a larger screen and has an advertised battery life of 10 hours. Other technical specs include a Wi-Fi range of 150 feet (45 meters) and a 0.3kg / 9.7oz weight. For the big amount of storage that it offers, it seems to be quite small, at the following dimensions: 115 x 115 x 23mm / 4.5 x 4.5 x 0.9in.

The 2TB LaCie Fuel can be pre-ordered through the LaCie website for $249.99 and will begin shipping in April of 2014. If you feel like you don’t need that much storage space, you can still buy the original 1TB LaCie Fuel version for $199.99.
