I get only balanced 'mono output' from my IPAD 4 when I insert my stereo pin and head phone in to the audio 'out put' slot. Is there any adjustment to be made?. The same pin and headphone works well with my Ipod. Have the following doubta

1. Is the output from ipad4 mono?
2. Should I do some settings to get stereo sound
3. Should I choose Ipad 4 ear phone?
4. Is it not possible to get stereo sound through other cable than recommended by apple? If so what is the cable specification?

Please clarify

Welcome to the iPad Forums! We are a diverse membership from around the world, with members coming from all walks of life. You've come to the right place if you want to learn all you can about your new iPad. Many of our members volunteer their time to helping solve other members problems as well as answering any questions they may have. If a search of the forums doesn't answer your questions, don't hesitate to ask a question in the appropriate forum. Before posting, please read the forum rules.http://www.ipadforums.net/forum-rules-help-info/2119-forum-rules-everybody-please-read.html

1. The audio output through the headphone jack is stereo.
2. There are no special settings required to get stereo sound, it's automatic.
3. Any stereo headphone with the proper jack will give stereo sound.
4. You can use any brand of cable provided it has the proper jacks.

I think you may want to consider making a Genius Bar appointment at an Apple store. Your problem is not normal. Before going, however, try looking into the headphone jack, in case some debris is lodged there.

Make sure to do a full backup of your iPad before going to the AppleStore, as they will give you a replacement iPad if they decide your problem is a warranty issue. You can then set up the new iPad from the backup you made.

P.S.; if the audio source is mono, you will hear mono sound in the headphones.

Hi there and welcome.

I deleted your other post on this subject as it was basically a short version of your question here, which fragments and discussions and also isn't in accordance with those pesky forum rules (see below).

There is lots of good advice and info on here plus plenty of members all too willing to help with any problems.

Remember, search is your friend. If you can't find the answer you need and you post a question then give as much info as you can to help members help you i.e. iPad 1 or 2, etc. and iOS version and name of app if the problem is with a specific app........and please don't forget to read the forum rules http://www.ipadforums.net/forum-rules-help-info/2119-forum-rules-everybody-please-read.html

These are the hacking section rules for all you jail breakers (and would be jail breakers) http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-hacking/2892-hacking-section-rules-please-read.html

We also have an app for this forum. The link to download the app is: Discussion Forum for iPad Users for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store

You can download the manual for your iPad here http://help.apple.com/ipad/6/ and here http://support.apple.com/manuals/ and in iBooks search for "iPad user guide for" and you will find free comprehensive manuals for iOS 4, 5, 6, etc.

If you have other Apple products or are interested in other Apple kit then why not join our sister forum too at http://www.appleforums.net/ and for iPhone users, come and join in the discussion over at http://www.iphoneforums.net

Check Settings > General > Accessibility and make sure you do not have Mono Audio turned on under the Hearing settings.
