iPad volume

I can't get the volume on my iPad to go up using the side buttons. It's goes done but not up.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

Well that's not good, has your pad ever suffered a hit in the general area of the volume controls? See if they can be pressed freely and are not hindered in any way.
Do the four finger swipe up or double press your home button to reveal your multi task bar running along the bottom, now swipe right and this will reveal another volume control here. Check to see if these controls are functional by just sliding it with your finger. Normally if you now use the volume controls you will see this slide go up and down, is that working at all?

Try a restart and/or reset of your iPad and see if this makes a difference. A reset in this instance will not change anything on your iPad and is akin to rebooting an pc.
Restart - Press and hold the power off button, the one at the top right. You will see a slide appear to power off, slide this and the screen will go dark and a Whirly will appear. When the Whirly disappears your iPad is now off. Press the power button again until the Apple logo appears, this will take a few seconds and your iPad will restart. You should restart your iPad occasionally also as it will keep it running well. Now see if it is operating. If not try the reset.

Reset - Hold the power off button and the home button simultaneously, keep holding them in and you will see the power off slide appear and disappear, wait until you see the Apple logo appear before releasing the buttons. It will take a little longer for your iPad to start. Let us know how you go.
