Bit of a problem with the Mail app

    I am on virgin media and after initial problems have managed to both receive and send emails. I am using imap for receiving and smpt for sending. My problem is that when receiving emails the first half dozen or so fly in then there is a long (1min+) gap before the next ones come in and then only very slowly. I also often get the server not responding error. I can rectify the problem by switching off, or by exiting the Mail app (by pressing the home button twice). The mail app is then ok again for a short while. The problem is not with my wifi router as I can watch uTube videos with no stuttering, likewise iPlayer. I can also access my emails using Safari and logging on to my email account with no problems. All this points to a problem with Mail. Does anyone have any ideas please?

    I had a similar problem. My ISP helped me out. Go into the Mail app advanced settings and try turning off SSL and changing the port number. Mine needed to be 143.
