I have an Ipad 2 WiFi only and find that my laptop picks up WiFi signals much better than my Ipad. ie I can go into the room next door to where the router is and pick up the signal on the laptop but not the Ipad. I live in a 300 year old French house with meter thick stone walls. Does anybody else have this problem or know why it happens?

Inherent properties of information transmission via EM. One solution may be to wire a couple access points into different areas the building.

Hi thanks for reply - I am all set to put relay points round the house but are IPads in general not very good at picking up WiFi or is there something wrong with mine?

Hi Steve - I also have an iPad 2 and agree w/ you that its Wi-Fi receiver does not seem to be as efficient as my previous & current laptops (r-MBP newest) - on my back porch at the moment (3 rooms away from my router) - my iPad has a 2-bar signal and 9 Mbps DL speed; however, the MBP has all bars showing and achieving 21 Mbps DL speed (using the same website); now, those 3 ft stone walls are likely part of the explanation (don't know if you've tried out your device in a standard wood house?) - but I would agree to check out the router (age, 802.11 protocols used, & firmware) and maybe a Wi-Fi extended point or two might be the answer? Good luck - Dave :)
