Why used iPads so expensive on auction sites?

From the point of view of somebody who just got an iPad and was very frustrated when I walked into an Apple store and was told that there were no Ipads in stock and I'd have to be put on a "priority list" (or in other words, a waiting list), I understand why people are buying iPads for the same or even higher price than new.

We live in a "get it now" society and waiting a week to ten days to get one, after deciding that I wanted one now, seemed like a long time!

Also consider that thru private-party sales, you usually don't have to pay sales tax. Also, some sellers are including cases or other accessories that they bought, but they aren't necessarily increasing their sales price.

(Yah, I looked at a number of alternative options to get my iPad quicker, so I have first-hand experience with the why's of this topic!)

Simple supply and demand. Fortunately I'm not one to patronize someone who buys multiple ipads expressly to sell them at outrageous markups, I'm more than content to wait my time. But hey, some just gotta have it now, and are prepared to sacrifice an arm and a leg to get it. To each their own....

I love it. This way, if an amazing Android tablet comes out that I like more than the iPad in 4-6 months, I can sell my iPad for basically what I paid for it. That is one of the major plus' of owning Apple products.

Good point. A consideration in making this my first Apple purchase was the knowledge that it was pretty much risk-free - I knew I'd be able to sell it for a good price if I didn't like it.

How the apple cart works

7 to 10 days shipping means that once it is shipped it will take 7 to 10 days to get to you from china....doesn't mean you will have it next week. Usually takes a few weeks to ship out.

The site/cart says specifically "Ships in 7-10 days." - so is the Apple cart system wrong?

The apple store on line sells many products. A large number are held in Apple,s distribution centre in what ever country you are ordering from. Many products however due to demand or low inventory will ship direct from respective factories.

The date on each product will show 7- 10 or 3-5 days however once to decide to purchase the updated date will appear which may be shorter or longer. If it is a known major delay it will be reflected on the first screen before you order?
I should point out also this is no different to Dell on line or many other on line sites.
Many products are also "customer to order" for example Macpros and not until you complete your selection on what you want will the updated estimate delivery time show. The date will vary as it depends which factory is building the product. As all iPads are manufactured in China Apple knows the estimated delivery time which is 7 - 10 days.

I have been a specialist reseller in Australia since 1993 and have been ordering computers built to order since the Apple store began taking orders so I have extensive experience on how it works. In Australia mainstream Macs are built in Singapore and sometimes China, iPods and ipads are from China. MacBook pros were at one stage coming out of USA factories. So delivery times varied I always allowed 10 plus days just to be on the safe side. Longest i have ever waited was almost 2 months due to a component shortage but Apple notified us of the delay.

So I would not get to heated up about estimate delivery times when ordering ANYTHING on line it is some thing you have to put up with.

Gentle fury is correct 7 10 days delivery from China is the norm for ipads assuming they have stock to ship

Thats what the shipping cart told me 7-10 days, but that is after the thing is made. You will get it in about 4 weeks.
