I seem to remember that you said you were 11, but don't know whether you've since had a birthday. Are you in sixth grade or middle school?

What happened before that makes you worry about the new school year?

I am still 11 and I'm going into 5th grade this year, I was supposed to be in 6th, but I had some problems I'm kindergarten, it's not getting held back, but it's just, eh it's hard to explain.

And the reason why I'm worried is because first of all, I'm TERRIBLE at math I get bad grades on almost every math test I take, and second of all, there's these annoying boys that make fun of me for liking sonic the hedgehog, they constantly come up to me either alone or in groups and say really rude things to me like, "HEY SONIC SUCKS AND MARIO ROCKS!" and "HEY YOU SONIC IS SO LAME!" one person even started making fun of me and I got mad and yelled at him and he called me a moron and ran away... And other time 2 boys were making fun of me for liking wolves and I got mad and told them to shut up and they told the principle and she yelled at them for making fun of me but I was the one who got PUNISHED! It's so unfair. :(

Sorry to hear that.

Try to remember that some kids tease just to get a rise out of you. Try ignoring them and they might get bored. But that doesn't make it OK that they're teasing you, of course.

Some teasing always happens in school, but if it's something that happens enough to make you dread going back to school, or is making it harder for you to learn, that's something you should let your parents know. They'd need to talk to adults in school to make sure you get a good chance to learn what you need.

If you're having a hard time with math, have you talked to your teachers or parents about finding out what's the reason? Some people have learning disabilities that keep them from learning math or languages, no matter how hard they work at it, for instance. Of course, if you just don't like it and aren't doing your homework or paying attention, that's a different thing.

I didn't like math in school, either. I just did enough to get by.

I see, I might have a learning disability, one of my teachers said I might have some kind of dyslexia, but sometimes I daydream during math time, and it only happens during math time for some reason :/
And I will try to ignore those boys, thanks for the advice!

Try talking to your teachers and parents more about why you're not doing well in math, and maybe they can help you enjoy it more, or at least struggle less with it.

I know it's hard to do something you don't like, but try to remember that if you don't learn what you need now, it will get harder for you to catch up later. I know math can bore some people (like me), but if you learn enough to at least get by, you'll have a better choice of college subjects and work when you grow up.

You said you like Sonic and wolves. A lot of people had to learn math so that they could later get the skills and education to make Sonic, for example. Or maybe you might grow up and want to work with animals. Well, veterinarians, wildlife biologists and others who work with animals had to learn at least some math so that they could do something they love later. The same goes for people who design iPads -- they had to learn their math, too.

So you don't have to love math, but there are all kinds of advantages to learning it. If you keep that in mind -- that you're learning it so that it will help make your life better later -- that might help you focus more on it.

What can I say, Kay has said it all. Get your parents to classify you dyslexic so that teachers at least know you have certain difficulties. Trust me, it makes life easier for us teachers to know these things. Ignore the bullies. They feed on your reaction like sharks.
