It's difficult to distinguish the slopes when watching. What is the gradient of the the steepest part?

The tennis turned into a bit of an anti-climax although Federer is a worthy winner.

I don't know, to be honest. It's steep enough that the brave (or foolhardy) lose traction in the winter and have to stop on the hill to chain up.

There are some parts of the original highway that have been bypassed. One of them was called Suicide Hill, which Sikanni Chief replaces. There was a sign at the bottom which said "Prepare to meet thy maker." Talk about confidence building.

Also, some of the bush roads that lead to oil and gas installations have serious grades. I wore out a set of tire chains in a year on these roads.

The excellent terrain map on Maps shows the slopes much more effectively--looks pretty impressive!

Is the turn off south from the highway down to the river the steep section you mean? Presume there is an installation down there which needs trucks to visit?

There are installations all over the region. Some of them are 100s of kilometres off the highway. We have ice roads and bridges to reach others.
