What's new

What are you guys doing right NOW??? ;)

They didn't. :-( We ended at the 10th/last place.
Everyone's disappointed, sad, miserable and angry at the jury members. (Including me.)
We would understand this decision, if we'd really had the worst performance, but there were other marching bands in this competitions with more and worse mistakes than ours, that ended up somewhere from place 5 - 3.
Can you imagine that the band where one member side-slipped, and the conductor gave wrong signs and almost dropped his mace, won the third place - compared to our 10th, where nothing as bad as this happened?

I'm sorry to read this, Johanna. It must be bitterly disappointing to lose so unfairly. I hope you all received a great welcome home.

Great news AA personally, tragic for the town.
Sad news Johanna

Fantastic news Andy Murray won Wimbledon for Great Britain. 77 years over. Watching highlights now. I was at a picnic celebrating my 23 years of marriage to my fantastically wonderful husband.

Yes congratulations on your 23rd anniversary, Hayles.

Also, it's great news from Wimbledon. That could be the proverbial icing on the cake. :)

I'm sorry to hear that Johanna, that must be very disappointing considering the work and hopes you put into it. And I can understand how you all must feel. It is always disheartening when you see people in authority, like the judges presumably there due to their knowledge and experience, make unsatisfactory judgements like that. But hey! There's always next year and hopefully you enjoyed other parts of your trip.:) And enjoy the rest of your break!

I'm doubtful about the jury members' knowledge. One of them had to ask our conductor about the rules.
This competition takes place every 2 years, in a different state of Austria. One music band represents each country, we did this for the second time this year. Should we be asked again next time, we won't participate, for sure.
Another thing is: we were rated with "excellent success" 29 times in a row with our performances before this event. This time it "only" was a "very good success". We'll have to start from the beginning, which will last for the next two/almost three decades, with one marching competition a year.

South Tyrol is beautiful. Perhaps you can imagine that we enjoyed it for two days only. We had a tight time schedule, and the 10th place killed all the joy.

Our fan club and some family members were there, too. When we returned to the hotel, they were waiting for us, receiving us with cheers.

Johanna, please don't give up. Is there an appeals procedure your band can use to challenge the decisions made? It seems so unfair for everyone in your band, especially if inexperienced judges were at the competition.

I don't think so.
There were videos made from both our performances, the duty performance and the show performance, from members of the fan club, and also photos, from three different angles. Our conductor is planning to send copies of a few videos to the directorate of our brass-band union in Burgenland. It won't change anything, though. We have to accept it. One of them was there as well. He was a jury member on the second day.
We also didn't get any clear explanation what caused the loss of points.

I see that I was missing a lot these three days, without connection to the internet and without newspaper.

It must have been a very happy day for all of you in UK.

It was a great day for British sport. Lets hope commentators don't refer to the win each year for 40 plus years. Do you know we won the football World Cup in 1966? :)

No, I didn't. Sorry! Too long ago! I do remember, that I often heard how great the English football team was, when I was a child. And it still is, IMO, especially in comparison to the Austrian football team.

I was born that year so it must have been a good year. Thanks for all the good wishes you guys!

I am really sorry about that Johanna. Unfortunately, you just have to suck it up and try again next time. Sad that there are biased judges though.

Any news AA?

Yes, there's nothing else we can do but getting over it and starting all over again.
