What's new

What are you guys doing right NOW??? ;)

I'm trying to get the vision of the new love of my life out of my head. I was in BestBuy earlier and had a look at the new MBP with retina display, long before I could possibly afford one. Bad move.

Okay

So how old do they have to be? Maybe a few days?

Amy, I may be wrong by jumping in here, so apologies. A few days is too short a time. You need to exercise some judgement here and decide whether the topic in the thread is current or of ongoing interest. Check through the posts and see how quickly, time wise, responses are posted. This should indicate to you whether interest in the subject has stopped or is ongoing

I haven't investigated how iPF deals with very old threads. I am the member of a few other non Apple forums. In one forum, old dormant threads are moved into an archive and locked so that they may be read only. I'm not sure how the forum administrators decide whether threads are ready for archival, but expect that the age of the thread, and the rate at which posts are made to it are taken into consideration, along with whether the subject has been satisfactorily answered.

My apologies for this rather long post, but perhaps I am planting some seeds and ideas which could flourish to help us all. :)

Which makes Saskatchewan one of the saner places on the planet. The Spring time change is a nightmare for me. I'm ruined for a week.

Our time change is on 28th October. A debate is ongoing about staying on BST year round.

I sometimes think a lot of complaints, such as about kids going to school in the dark, could be resolved if sectors of our society staggered their hours for safety and convenience.

We have briefly touched on this point in conversations among the moderators so here goes:

If you are answering a question, it makes sense to check the age of it, and it's pertinence. If someone apparently wants to know how to jailbreak 4.3.3, it's doubtful they will still be wondering, since that version is ages old. Also, see if they are online, and check their user profile for their last activity. People often sign up, ask a question and are never seen again.

We (that is the iPF staff) don't make a habit of closing old threads simply because they are old. Perhaps we should, but that will take time, since there are thousands of threads. We would rather devote the time we have to helping members with their problems and general housekeeping around the forum.

Any member can send a PM to moderators and/or administrators any time they choose if they need any clarification or help. All of the staff started off as members, and we are here because the forum is useful to us in one or more ways. It's as much of a social group as a self-help group. I know I've made friends on here, and learned many valuable tips.

If anyone needs any further explanation or assistance, feel free to contact any of the staff, and we will answer as best we can. We are here to help, and to make sure the forum runs as smoothly as possible for the membership.

I had a clearer view of the moon from the bedroom but didn't want to wake up my wife by taking photos of the street scene.

Not that long ago, most jurisdictions in North America extended the duration of daylight savings time as an energy conservation measure.
The Fall time change here is 02:00 Sunday, November 04. The EXTRA hour of sleep - I can handle. :)

As an aside, I believe that in addition to Saskatchewan, parts of northeastern British Columbia remain on standard time year long. Kevin and Scifan is that still the case?

The first snap would make an ideal cover shot for a murder mystery or thriller. :)

Thx, Admiral. Yes it would. If the fox had slinked down the road, it would have been a nice finishing touch :)

Correct, Saskatchewan has been on mountain daylight savings time continuously since 1964. For 48 years we haven't had to change our clocks twice a year.

That's right, Admiral. Individual towns vary. Prince George uses daylight saving, fort St John and Dawson Creek do not. Not sure about Fort Nelson.
