Apparently there is a new update. I was not particularly thrilled with the last one to say the least. Has anyone done the new update? If so are you glad you did or did it work out ok.

Thanks

I did it yesterday when the notification came up. No problems, but I wouldn't know what to look for anyway as I've only had the iPad since last week and know very little about Apple.

I updated my iPad 4 running stock 6.0.1 to 6.1 and i haven't noticed any changes.

If you don't want to run into any possible complications, i would suggest that you simply update via Wi-Fi using the OTA (Over The Air) update. Just go to the Settings app and update from there.
If you want to do a complete restore by wiping all your data and installing iOS 6.1 as stock version, then you might be in some for trouble, unless you have some experience. Here's a guide (more of a troubleshooting process) on how i managed to do it: http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-4-forum/102230-ipad-bricked-restore-process-errors.html

According to Apple, changes in iOS 6.1 include:

  • LTE support for more carriers (a complete list of iPad and iPhone LTE carriers is available online).
  • Purchase movie tickets through Fandango using Siri (USA only)
  • iTunes Match subscribers can now download individual songs from iCloud
  • New button to reset the Advertising Identifier

No noticeable diff on my iPad 4 or touch 5, but I wasn't expecting much, given what Apple said was in the update. I figured that any advantage to me might be in unspecified fixes. Updating OTA was quick and easy.

I'm keeping my iPad 2 and iPhone 4S on iOS 5.1.1 because I like the old Google maps. I haven't gotten around to updating my touch 4, but I probably will.

Sorry. I don't agree. Tried that way for upgrade to 6.0 and it froze (twice). Now to 6.1 - Connected to iTunes. Was offered the option to download and install. Went to breakfast. When returned everything up and running again. Definitely connect. Much safer - and probably quicker.

OTA updates for point releases (i.e. 6.x to 6.1) should always be quicker, since the package installed is a delta, rather than the full blown and complete IOS image which is installed via iTunes on the PC.

Also worth noting that anyone potentially interested in jailbreaking 6.1 at any time in the future should not use the OTA update. You must update to 6.1 using iTunes.
