To Flash or not to Flash.....

Hi all, I am a new iPad2 user and am wanting to get as much enjoyment out of it that I can, so thought where to start but on a forum site where the experts gather. I was told not to get the iPad because I wouldn't be able to watch things like missed TV shows, but I got one anyway because I've got an iPhone which I've enjoyed. So of course I now would like to know is there a way that I can watch these shows, or is there an app that I need to download? Should I just go to an Apple shop and ask the question?
