okay, this is not an iOS / iPad issue but osx fix for MacBooks and iMacs, and its regarding the spinning beach ball, it became a regular sight since Maverics, and it is a soft ware bug, because it happens to all OSX macs no matter how powerful they are specs wise. Its very easy to follow, to get to terminal search it on the spotlight and the biggest challenge i faced was the hashtag (#) on the keyboard, the short cut is alt 3. here is the link that helped me

Workaround for the Slow Open / Save Dialog Box Problem in OS X Mavericks

after the process is done, the apps will be slow when starting for the first time after the modification but then it flies. My biggest source of beach ball was opening the mail application and iPhoto, the slowness and beach ball have all disappeared. Give it a try and hope it helps

I'll have to look into it later, though I'm not experiencing the problem.

It would be easier here, since the # and £ key combos are reversed on a U.S. keyboard: as opposed to the UK standard. I wonder, if Twitter had been a UK company, would we all be pound tagging stuff instead of hash tagging?

Pleased that I came across 9 rolls of brand new insulation for free tonight from a freecycle site .
Having been busy for the last 4 weeks now I'm tracking down as much stuff as possible to get materials together around my other commitments so hopefully I get a move on with my workshop . Progress has been very slow lately :-(

interesting point about twitter, i don't use it and never needed the hashtag before until now, i was searching all over the keyboard, and then i googled it and thats how i got it. I believe the article is American so the writer and editors would not know that we in the UK don't have the has stag sign so i don't blame them for not knowing it and putting a guide to it, anyways google is always here to help for moments like this. In a nutshell the process worked for me and hopefully the awareness helps others

Also Twerppoet, thank You for the like and glad to hear you did escaped the beach ball phenomenon, i am glad to get rid of it, i suppose Apple will fix this bug in the next OSX Mavericks update

Interesting. I get this on my new MBA! Not sure I want to fiddle with it so will wait for update. Knowing Apple will fix it soon. Thumbs Ricky!

Hi Hayley, by all means wait for apple to fix this bug, i was rather reluctant to do it myself too but then took the plunge, it was effortless apart for the # hashtag button :D but it was worth it for me as my macbook is very fast now and haven't seen the annoying the spinning beach ball yet. Your macbook air is even faster then my macbook as yours is all SSD flash memory, no moving and spinning parts like mine. But i still love it, the best laptop i ever had, hard ware and software :eek: no more microsoft head aches, those bad days are long gone

So so true. Even with the occasional ball, it is so easy to use. So light and no waiting to warm up!! Lol.

More freebies :) timber ( new ) frames , double glazed windows , baton timber , sockets , armoured cable , doors , chipboard , chisels & extension cables !

It's amazing what people give away these days .

The only items I've had to buy so far are blocks and concrete :)

Thumbs. An example of our throwaway society. If we can reuse it for something else, it stays. Well done Andy

Thanks hayles66 .
Yes your right , we do dispose of a lot of reusable waste these days . I'm definitely proud of recycling , especially materials that can be salvaged and immediately reused . I couldn't believe the rolls of new insulation ( Eco friendly also ) that I collected . I couldn't help myself but to google the price of the stuff ...£14 per roll = £84 , and then I decided to check some prices of the new timber window frames complete with furniture like locks & latches and they came in at £135 each = £270 ...! I'm actually very shocked still . The temptation to sell the frames and buy my felt for the roof with the money is playing on my mind ...

Thanks Scifan! It's nice to have time off to spend with family. Just got some Tom Clancy books and W.E.B. Griffin books with some new baseball hats to take over to a Veterans home for homeless Veterans today. They have a place to live now, hopefully little things like these will help too.

Not sure if any of you watched a classic British program called The Professionals but one of the characters Bodie died today. The actor Lewis Collins had cancer and died peacefully in Los Angeles. One of my heros! He was so handsome, funny, macho, aggressive... Total fan.
