Tables in pages

I am working on a table in pages, which was originally a word document, emailed then opened in pages. The problem is that the text will not go onto a second page instead the word count continues to go up but no text or new page appears. I am literally writing in thin air!

Have you ever noticed how you can type all day in a text box and only text that is within the borders of the box will show?
Tables are similar. A table started on one page will not automatically carry over to another page.
