self-introduction from new member having problems with 7.1

As a new member, I am making a self-introduction post. An American living in Japan (UT Austin graduate), I have been using Apple products since the Apple II, back in the 1980s. At present I have a Mac Book Pro, iphone 4s and ME392J/A 128gb, unjailbroken ipad using iOS7.1.
I look forward to exploring the wide variety of threads in this forum, and will be happy to contribute any way I can. After reading the OS 7.1 thread, I added a post of my own, as a reply (rather than making a new thread), to contribute to an understanding of issues related to this system update, by explaining problems I have been having since updating to 7.1. I will be most grateful for advice, suggestions. (I have also downloaded the 7.1 ipad users manual, and will be searching for solutions there as well.)

I visited Japan last November for the first time, loved it.....I wish I could have explored some more!
