We used to be able to swipe all the pages to the right and then the keyboard would pop up. Is there a way to do this now?

From any of the home screens, swipe down from around the top row of icons, the keyboard will show up.

before ios 7, you could search the web from here; now you have to open Safari if you want to search the web.
