Printer sync problems

I have an HP Photosmart printer that the IPad sees and recognizes. Printer has been configured. When I try to print I get a box that says that the the iPad is contacting the printer, but nothing happens beyond that! Please advise!

This is a fairly common problem and it seems to be that the IP address of the printer has changed. Various 'fixes' have been discussed by Members, such as power recycling the iPad and printer but the long term solution appears to be to configure the printer so that it has a static IP address.
