No Hotspot connection

I have only had my iPad 2 for a couple of weeks now but, when I go to a "HotSpot" like Peet's coffee that requires a password or LaBou Bakeries that does not I get a message that says "Unable to connect" Dismiss...

Is there a special setting, I thought the iPad would recognize the signal without any special settings...I am able to connect at home with my wireless router.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Usually you have to say yes to their agreement. Try going to Safari and see if it pops up. For the one you need a password you will need to follow their directions. Make sure you have your settings for "join networks". When I go somewhere with free wifi I open settings first and see what's available and choose. Generally the next time you go there it will recognize and hook you automatically.

I was told by the management that I would have to accept their agreement but that window never comes up, their site appears in my Wi-Fi networks window, the signal is strong, yet still no connection...

Usually they appear for me when I open Safari. A page pops up asking me to agree requiring I click in the box. I'm thinking of Subway, Home Depot, ABC, our library system. I can't remember how others work.

If there is someone else in the place using a laptop or tablet maybe you could ask them how they are able to connect--when and where they get the agreement to check.

Have you gone to settings and checked to see if "ask to join networks" is ON? That may have something to do with finding no network. When you go into settings you should see a list of networks available, both secured and non-secured. Their network should appear in that list. Try choosing it and see if you get a page in Safari. You may not be able tqo connect to their page if you don't have Safari open, but not sure of that. Open it to be sure.
