I'm a new member and having lots of issues with my IPAD 4 retina. The biggest one is after upgrading IOS 7.1 I cannot connect my IPAD to either my Windows 7, or Windows Vista PCs. I get a USB not recognized error. I looked on many message boards and have tried everything except reloading ITUNES. I don't want to reload ITUNES on Windows since I'm concerned about losing Playlists. I am at the current release of ITunes which is version 11.1.5.5. What a coincidence that this occurs after upgrading both ITUNES and my IPAD? My IPAD is just over one year old.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

Have you performed a restart and/or reset of your iPad since the update? It's a recommended step after any update just to help everything settle in nicely. Try them and see if they make a difference......in the meantime I've moved your thread to our Help Section where you will receive a better response.

Restart - Press and hold the power off button, the one at the top right. You will see a slide appear to power off, slide this and the screen will go dark and a Whirly will appear. When the Whirly disappears your iPad is now off. Press the power button again until the Apple logo appears, this will take a few seconds and your iPad will restart. You should restart your iPad occasionally also as it will keep it running well. Now see if it is operating.

Reset - Hold the power off button and the home button simultaneously, keep holding them in and you may see the power off slide appear and disappear, wait until you see the Apple logo appear before releasing the buttons. It will take a little longer for your iPad to start.

Try removing your USB drivers and rebooting your computer. Also, try to plug the device in in one of the ports in the rear chassis of your computer rather than through a hub, printer, monitor, the front chassis, etc

Hello - as to your iTunes' Playlists - these can be exported and imported, so not an issue if you do decide to reinstall the program on your PCs. Also, make sure that your AMDS (Apple Mobile Device Service) is running (just click on the acronym for directions) - good luck! Dave :)
