Hi all, brand new here so thought i'd just say hello, and hopefully get some help with an issue i'm having.

I have an Ipad 2 and IPhone 4, both of which I use with a bluetooth keyboard. I cant find a way (with the keyboard I have) to tab through and select apps to open from the home screen, or tab and navigate a list/weblinks in safari. Can this be done or do I need a different keyboard. I've mainly used Windows based system and always find it easier to navigate with the keyboard, such as tabbing through settings and selecting icons etc. and was hoping I might be able to carry this on now I've started using Apple products. I was thinking of purchasing a Mac, so would rather know if this is a limitation of this also before going out and getting one.

Can anyone clarify this for me, or if there's a way this kind of keyboard navigation is possible then can anyone offer any assistance.

Thanks in advance, will look forward to some comments.

I don't know how a Mac would behave, but I can tell you that a keyboard doesn't work like you describe on an iPad.

You have to touch the screen with your finger to select apps or to scroll in Safari web pages. You can't tab or scroll with the arrow keys.

You can use the arrow keys on a BT keyboard to move around a text box or in a document, but that's all.

On some keyboards (Zaggmate and Apple's wireless one), you can/do have some special keys to operate the home button, volume controls, etc. But still, none control the icon taps to open or web browsing.

Maybe one day - but for now, nope. Sorry.

Good to hear from you. You’ll find a whole bunch of iPad enthusiasts in this Forum who are only too willing to help other iPad owners and to hear of their experiences. Don’t be afraid to post any questions you may have or use the ‘Search’ button near the top of the Forum web page. I usually find I discover one new interesting and useful piece of information about my iPad every day - and often not even what I was looking for!!

Hope to hear from you soon with your thoughts about the iPad.

Have fun and enjoy your iPad

If you don’t already have it you can download a copy of the iPad manual for free.

Hi there,
surtenly I miss the arrow keys too and hope it will come in next generation.

I've a little tips I use:

Get the App iA Writer, with this I write all and the copy / paste.
The app has the arrow keys and further keys to delete or repeat what I just wrote.

Try it if You like my tips.

Thanks for all the comments, your responses are very much appreciated. I'll try the app you suggested and take a look at the Zaggmate keyboard.

I'm sure I'll have other questions that arise in the future so I'll keep my eye on the threads, I like the idea of learning something new everyday too so thanks again.

Best regards
