Jailbreak should I

Ok. I am intrigued by jailbreak. I understand that some apps may turn out to be a pain and could potentially mess up my iPad. Also, the biggest thing that I value my iPad for is it's speed, mostly thanks to it being bomb proof against virus's and adware etc. I worry that if I did jailbreak it, that I would be opening up a can of worms. What do people think?
