I am a commercial pilot and is the moderator of a website by our airline named magicofflight.com. Now we are always on the fly, I prefer something lighter than a laptop, when i heard about ipad. So my doubt is whether ipad can display flash video embeds on the site because our site will play videos on jw player.
Please explain. This is what is holding me from buying the ipad.
Thanking you in advance,
Vishnu

Flash is a resource hog and does not work well with any tablet. For those who have to use flash, my suggestion is to get the new 11" MacBook Air. It will do flash, is lightweight, and able to do a lot of functions that a tablet won't. The disadvantage is that you cannot get built-in 3G service. You have to get a dongle or wifi hub for that.

Flash Player

With all the technology that Apple has there must be some way to install flash player in the IPad and IPhone. :)

not until Apple allows it there's not and so far they say no, and have said no with iOS since 2007.

Every other platform has a tablet coming out within the next couple of months, the first being under two weeks away from launch, that plays flash videos flawlessly even at 1080p. Webos, blackberry and android. There are videos all over YouTube showing this off.

Apple doesn't play flash because Steve jobs wants to sell videos through iTunes, games through the app store and force websites that use flash to create apps to support his ecosystem. The performance issue is something that people use to cover for apple being the ONLY platform that blocks it.

I think 'flawlessly' isn't quite the right term here.
I have friends with Android-tablets who always complain that flash drains their batteries faster than they can recharge, that the tablet gets extremely hot when they use flash and that overall the performance of flash is comparably poor.

So, it might run, but it just wasn't made for tablets.
I'm not Mr. Jobs' best friend, but he really has a point in not permitting flash on the iPad.

He never said anything about the current market Android tablets, he said the new tablets coming in the next couple weeks to couple months. The new ones are considerably more powerful and will handle Flash content very well.

It's not a matter of technology, if they wanted the iPad or iPhone to have flash it would have had it by now. In Steve Job's eyes the problem is security. He has stated repeatedly that he has not intention of adding Flash to the iPhone or iPad. It's not going to happen, he is going to use a different technology.

It is a good thing that Apple don't have flash. It gives an edge to it's competitors ( Android) that do have flash running without problem.
That way Apple wouldn't dominate the market. Compation is good with lowering prices and bringing advanced technology.

Hey Vishnu welcome. I'll answer your question out of experience. And just to give you a little advice, when you come into these forums, try not to say the "F" word. No, I don't mean "F*#@". "FLASH". So far you haven't received a straight answer on whether or not Flash videos will work on the iPad. From my experience, most of the sites with Flash videos I go to watch online from my PC (CNN, Globoesporte, YOUPORN, etc LOL) all run on flash-based videos. You can see that by right-clicking on the video and can clearly see that it's a FLASH video. However, I don't know if the site did anything special (and maybe an expert can respond about this) but when I browse to those sites using Safari on my iPad, I get the "play" button on top of the video, and hence it works! In fact, I appreciate the iPad much more now because it does play Flash videos (from what I understand) using its built-in Youtube player without any annoying ads, specially from the CNN site. You'll notice that if you go to CNN and play one of their videos, it's the same interface of the Youtube app. I don't know if that makes any sense to you but if you go to an Apple store and fondle one of these wonderful devices, you will see that you can play some Flash videos.

HOWEVER, there are quite a few sites that Flash videos do not work. Notably any major network's site (FOX, ABC, NBC, CBS) all have episodes of your favorite TV shows that are flash-based but don't work with Safari on the iPad. Though I haven't tried Skyfire and it's claims to play "most" flash videos, it's a bit promising that we can at least see some flash videos, no? I definitely was hesitant to get the iPad when I found out it didn't support flash, but the fact is that flash videos can and do work!

Good Luck!
