Ipad icon not displaying through airplay

Have AirPlay setup on my iPad 2 but If I'm trying to watch something on my iPad the sound won't come through my iPad speakers. I've clicked on the airplay button but my only options are apply tv and the dock. The icon for the iPad doesn't appear. I've tried everything and there's no way to disable AirPlay without disconnecting from the wifi network but then that doesn't help the problem either. Any suggestions?

The dock is your ipad
In other words disconnect your ipad from your dock and you will see the ipad option
