iPad and Smarter Balanced Test

We have been taking the Smarter Balanced practice test on the iPads. I cannot get the iPad to display the "read" option when the student has the text to speech accommodation. I also cannot get the iPads to use the highlight feature when we are in the practice test. Any ideas? We have tried double tapping and also holding our finger down on the words to get options to display, neither have worked. Any help is greatly appreciated!!
