IPad and Airport Express or Airport Extreme

I have an Ethernet Cable connected to my IMAC. When I get an IPad and it is the only item that I need WIFI for, which of the Airport Products would make the most sense.
Do I connect the Ethernet Cable to the AirPort product and then another Ethernet Cable back to the IMAC?
Would like an easy to understand reply.
