There is no spy software for the iPad, the iOS doesn't allow apps to watch the iPad. All apps are sandboxed and cannot interfere, nor watch other apps. So even if you where to install a spy app, it wouldn't be able to record anything done outside the app, as iOS is restricting app rights to the minimum, in an attempt to increase security. So as a result, is it not possible for an app to take screenshots, record all opened app, visited websites, or keep a record of all entered words.

For monitoring, how the children use the device, an iPad is not useful.

It's not really possible; the programs ('apps') on the iPad are 'sandboxed' and it's not possible for one app to 'oversee' another app in the way that would be necessary for you to do this.

Having said that, you can restrict access so that your children cannot use YouTube and Safari and you can set age restrictions - each app is age rated - so that unsuitable apps cannot be accessed by your children - indeed, their icons 'disappear' from the screen - and you can restrict in-app purchases, app downloads, app deletion, in-app purchases etc - all from the 'Settings', 'General', 'Restrictions' page, which you can passcode protect.

If you're concerned about the websites that your children might visit, one suggestion that another Member had was to use the history file in Safari; this will enable you to see the sites that your children have visited. You can tell your children that they must not delete this history and you, of course, can easily tell if they've done that by putting in a 'marker' before you let your children on the iPad (i.e. visit a specific site at a specific time before handing over the iPad, then see if that site is still in Safari's history file when the iPad is returned to you. The iPad does not have the capability to selectively edit the history file so, if that entry is still there when the iPad is returned to you, then you can be certain that all the sites that they have visited will be in the history.

There is something vaguely disquieting about your enquiry. I doubt many parents would consider the covert surveillance of their children to be a satisfactory or even acceptable substitute for proper supervision and guidance. Most, I suspect, would find such a notion quite unpleasant.

And as a matter of interest, who do you mean by "etc"? Are you planning to "monitor" anyone else?
